Je’vida

 

Je’vida, the first Skolt Sámi feature film, directed by Katja Gauriloff and written by Gauriloff and Niillas Holmberg, had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York in 2023. It also had screenings e.g. in the Toronto International Film Festival and Tromsø International Film Festival.

Je’vida has been proclaimed one of the best films of the year 2023 in Finland. It was nominated for seven and won three Jussi Film Awards. The Writers Guild of Finland awarded Je’vida the Sylvi Prize for best Screenplay. Gauriloff and Holmberg also won the Humanismin käsi award for the screenplay.

10 kirjettä tulevaisuuteen is a movie about people living in times of global crises, trying to envision the future 50 years from now. Niillas is one of the people this movie follows. The film premiered at the DocPoint Helsinki Documentary Film Festival in 2023.

Máilmmittkus, a film by Hans Pieski and Arttu Nieminen, is a surreal journey to the complex relationship between indigenous peoples and the unstoppable force of technological progression. The film pictures different stages of technological advancement and their effects on indigenous peoples. Poem and voice-over by Niillas Holmberg.

Máilmmitkkus is part of the ÁRRAN 360° project by the International Sámi Film Institute.

 

Muohtačalmmit

 
 

Muohtačalmmit, a film by Hans Pieski and Arttu Nieminen, paints a dystopia of how Sápmi will breathe in the future in the middle of energy and mineral policy pressure. Poetic essence for narration comes from Pedar Jalvi, Finland's first Sámi writer and principal figure of Sámi literature, who describes connection with water. Voice-over by Niillas Holmberg.
